The Olive pinafore from Tilly and the Buttons Make it Simple Book (the blue one)

This is the olive pinafore from the Tilly and the Buttons make it simple book and this is truly a simple make. It’s a cute pinafore dress with unlimited customisations options to make it yours and to make multiples that all look different.

My favourite part of this pattern is the all-in-one facing, you attach the neck and front then use Tilly’s method to attach to the arm holes, there’s the best video on her YouTube channel showing you how to do it if you find it tricky. I’ve used a vintage cotton for mine, I think I might of got this at a fabric swap. The jumbo corduroy is from pound fabrics and the snaps are my favourites by Prym (the anorak ones).

You will notice on mine that I’ve added a bust dart, my girls are a D cup and it made the fit across the bust slightly off, so I did an FBA and added the dart. There’s lots of tutorials online on how to do this, I cant remember which one I used but I’ve done this process so many times I can do it without instructions. If your busty like me I would look at doing one to get the fit right.

I do think that the dart needs raising an inch and that will make it perfect.

I also added the large pockets with flap that Tilly includes the pattern for. I love these pockets, they are lined and have plenty of room for all your snacks.

I’m wearing the pinafore with a top I made for the sew me sunshine blog, the colours in the fabric are an amazing match and looks so good together.

I’ll definitely be making more versions of this one, I love it so much, keep an eye on the blog for the pink one soon ….

Do you love this style?? What hacks would you do?

Thanks for reading,

Happy sewing,
